Every installation of Windows includes at least one TWAIN-aware application, Windows Imaging. Imaging refers to EFS-1 as a scanner. Not to worry, scanners are also TWAIN devices and they commonly use Data Sources. Many other third-party imaging program use the term "scan", or "scanner" as a generic reference to a TWAIN device.

Step 1: Click on -
  • File
  • Select Scanner
Step 2: In the Selection Dialog Box -
  • Select "Silicon Film TWAIN Data Source"
  • Click on OK
Imaging refers to all TWAIN devices as "scanners"
You may have many TWAIN data sources. Select Silicon Film TWAIN Data Source
Step 3: Click on -
  • File
  • Scan New
Go back to the File menu, then click on Scan New
Notes:
  • In Windows 95, Imaging is known as Wang Imaging
  • Microsoft Photo Editor is similar
The EFS-1 UI/DS will be "called".

You may download images from (e)film, open previously downloaded digital negatives, or open a vault.

Imaging is a unique TWAIN application. When you call the EFS-1 UI/DS a small task bar appears in the lower left-hand corner of the Imaging workspace. This is a TWAIN manager:

Transfer Images from the EFS-1 UI/DS workspace to Imaging -

After opening downloading or opening images in the EFS-1 UI, select those which you wish to transfer to Imaging. You may transfer images to in either of two ways.

1. Transfer the selected images by using either the File Menu:

2. Or, click on the Transfer icon:

  • File
  • Transfer to App
Transfering images using the File menu Transfering images to the application using the toolbar button
To transfer an image to Imaging you must select 8 - bit

After you issue the command to transfer images to the application, you will be presented with a choice of 8-bit, or 16-bit image transfer.

8-bit is the default choice. Imaging will only accept EFS-1 images using 8-bit transfers. (16-bt transfers will be scrambled.)

Important Note. Unlike most TWAIN-aware applications, the Imaging TWAIN manager will close the EFS-1 UI/DS automatically after images are transferred to Imaging.

Note also that multiple images transferred to Imaging will appear as separate pages within a single document. This is particularly useful if you are planning to create a fax document and wish to include EFS-1 images within the document.
