TWAIN Acquisition to Office 2000 Applications -

It is possible to use the EFS-1 UI/DS TWAIN Data Source to move images directly into Microsoft Office 2000 Programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Photo Editor. This allows you to move images directly form digital negatives (DNG files) to these applications.

Step 1: Click on:
  • Insert
  • Picture
  • From Scanner or Camera
For MS Office 2000 applications use the Insert Menu
Office 97 is similar but MS Photo Editor is used as an intermediary "helper" application.
In this example, Word is shown. Excel and PowerPoint look similar.
Step 2:
  • Select "Silicon Film TWAIN Data Source" as the Device
  • Click on Custom Insert
Select Silicon Film TWAIN Data Source and click on Custom Insert
The EFS-1 UI/DS will open
Transfer Images from the EFS-1 UI/DS workspace to Office Applications -

After opening downloading or opening images in the EFS-1 UI, select those which you wish to transfer to your Office 2000 Application. You may transfer images to in either of two ways.

1. Transfer the selected images by using either the File Menu:

2. Or, click on the Transfer icon:

  • File
  • Transfer to App
Transfering images using the File menu Transfering images to the application using the toolbar button

After you issue the command to transfer images to the application, you will be presented with a choice of 8-bit, or 16-bit image transfer.

8-bit is the default choice. Office Applications can only accept 8-bit transfers. If you attempt a 16-bit transfer to an Office application, an error will occur and the image will not transfer. (Photo Editor will issue an illegal operation.)

Images transferred to an Office 2000 application must be 8 - bit

Important Note. Unlike most TWAIN-aware applications, the EFS-1 UI/DS will close automatically after images are transferred to your Office application.

Multiple images transfers to Office Applications -

  • Multiple images transferred to Word will appear individually on separate pages within a single Word document. This is particularly useful if you are creating a report and wish to include EFS-1 images within the document.
  • Multiple images transferred to Excel will appear as a montage of cascaded images within a single worksheet.
  • Multiple images transferred to PowerPoint will appear in separate slides of the current presentation. The first image will appear in the current slide. Subsequent images will be placed into new blank slides immediately following the current slide. Note also that EFS-1 images transferred to PowerPoint slides will be very large and must be resized to fit the slide workspace.
  • Multiple images transferred to Photo Editor will appear as individual untitled images, each in its own Window.
