This section provides suggested remedies to issues that may arise with EFS-1. Use this section as a technical reference and troubleshooting guide for solving problems you may encounter.

Images too Dark

Sometimes the images from EFS-1 appear too dark on your monitor. It is possible that you may need to adjust your monitor. For this reason, the EFS-1 User Interface window includes a grayscale bar. Look at the grayscale bar, below. It is the same one that is part of the UI window.

You should see 21 shades of gray in this image.
You should see twenty-one (21) shades of gray. If you cannot decipher at least 19 or 20 of these shades, it is recommended that you calibrate your monitor. If the darker shades on the left-hand side of the scale are not discernable, your EFS-1 images may look too dark. As a minimum correction, try adjusting the brightness of your monitor. (e)port does not Autodetect in PCMCIA mode

If your computer does not recognize (e)port the first time it is inserted in to your notebooks PCMCIA slot please review the following:

1) Ensure that the drivers have been installed. (To verify your installation you may wish refer to the appendix on that subject)

2) Reinstall the EFS-1 USer Interface and data source software. This will install driver and system files in their proper locations.

3) You may attempt a manual installation by following these steps:

Step 1:
If (e)port is not automatically detected, you may see this screen.
In this example, the Operating System did not automatically detect the (e)port nor make an association with EFS-1 system files.
Click on Next
Step 2:
Click on the first choice, "Search for the best driver for your device."
Click on the first choice, "Search for the best driver for your device."
Click on Next
Step 3:
Check the last check box only. (Uncheck all others.) Check the box: "Specify a location:"

(uncheck/deselect all others)

Browse to your INF directory.

If you cannot browse, or are uncertain enter:

c:\windows\inf (Windows 95/98/Me users)

c:\winnt\inf (Windows NT/2000 users)

Click on Next
Step 4:
The appropriate driver file has been located.
The driver files have been successfuly located.

"ePort PCMCIA device" is correctly identified and the apprpriate drive file has been located.

Click on Next
Step 5:
the correct driver has been installed, The appropriate driver will be installed.
Click on Finish
Restart your computer to complete the driver installation.
To verify that your PCMCIA drivers are correctly installed refer to the section "Verifying the Installation of EFS-1 Software and Device Drivers"

Peculiar Display Colors

Device Not Found

1) Make sure (e)port and (e)film are present

2) close (e)port lid

3) no images on (e)film

Device Not Available

Possible causes:

a) hardware is not present

b) (e)port door not closed

Solution:

Check hardware and connections

Close UI and call or start it again.

Do Not Remove Device

You must close the UI and/or TWAIN Application
PCMCIA mode only

Not A Valid Source

UI already open. UI opened then you opened an AP and called the DS. Soluion: Close UI and APs, recall.
