4. Battery Status Indicator

Battery status is indicated in the LCD information panel as shown:

: Batteries are fully charged.

: Batteries are low and need to be replaced soon.

: Batteries are too low to power the camera, and need to be replaced immediately.

 Caution

  • If the camera will not be used for a long period of time, remove the batteries.
This will extend battery life and prevent possible damage from a battery leak or corrosion.
  • Avoid using Manganese batteries. Use alkaline batteries.
  • Do not mix old and new batteries.
  • Low temperatures (below 32degrees F/0 degrees C) may reduce the output efficiency of the batteries and shorten the operating time of the camera.
  • When not in use, please turn the camera off to prevent overheating.
  • Improper insertion of the batteries can cause damage to the camera. Please insert the batteries with correct polarity, observing the +/- polarities.
  • Keep the camera warm when using in low temperatures. The reduced efficiency of batteries will usually recover in normal temperatures.
  • When inserting the batteries, please make sure that the camera is turned off.
  • When travelling, carry extra batteries especially where temperatures may be low.

 Reference

  • Your camera has an Auto-Power-Off function that automatically shuts down the camera when not used for two minutes.
  • Please remove the USB cable from the camera when not in use for a long time. The camera is not equipped with an Automatic-Power-Off function when connected to a PC by USB.

5. Inserting a Compact Flash Memory Card

1. Place your thumb on the battery door.

2. Slide the battery door away from the camera. (As shown in diagram).

3. Locate your Compact Flash memory card. Note that one edge has fifty (50) small holes. This edge (with the holes) goes in to the camera first. Also note that opposite edge has a lip.

4. Insert the card so that the lip is oriented as shown in the diagram to the right. The memory card will not insert fully if it is oriented correctly. Insert the card fully into the card slot and close the card door. As shown. When the card is correctly inserted, the eject button will rise to its full height.

 Caution

  • DO NOT open the battery door, remove batteries or and the Compact Flash card during operation. This may corrupt or delete an image file on the memory card.
  • The Compact Flash Memory card is a delicate memory storage device. Therefore, treat it carefully. Avoid bending it, or putting pressure on it.
  • DO NOT forcefully insert the Compact Flash card in a reverse orientation. This may cause damage to the memory card and camera.

6. Image Count

Your camera does not have internal memory. All images (and MP3s) are stored on the Compact Flash memory card. A CF card should be inserted before using the camera. The larger the memory card, the more images or MP3 songs you can store. Typically, the maximum image storage capacity of an 8 MB card (with no MP3 files) is as follows.

Image Mode > HI Mode (640 X 480) Low Mode (320 X 240)
Maximum Storage 100 Images 240 Images

 Reference

  • Depending upon the visual intensity of each image (busy versus bland scenes), the number of stored images may actually exceed the stated maximum storage. Images which are very "busy" (lots of objects in the image) take up more storage space. Images which are fairly bland (such as a scene with little color or scene variation) take less storage space.
  • If a memory card becomes full, open the battery door and push Compact Flash eject button to remove the Compact Flash card. A new card may be inserted an used.
  • The image counter is limited to three digits (999 images). If you have a large memory card (32 MB or larger) and you would like to take more than 999 image, please download the images into your PC and delete the images from the memory card to free the available memory. After this, resume taking images.
  • You can store MP3 files and digital image files on the same Compact Flash memory card.
